CONCOMADS :

Power plant Condenser performance is judged by the vacuum since a deviation of even one Torr of vacuum from the design brings a change of the turbine heat rate by around 8.2 KJ/KWh. It is possible to operate the power plant condensers at their best performance by appropriate monitoring and guidance system. Condenser Condition Monitoring and Diagnostic System (CONCOMADS), is a customized thermal power plant condenser on-line performance monitoring and diagnostics system for power plant condensers to

a. accomplish continuous real-time evaluation of performance of the condenser due to above cited factors.

b. generate operator guidance to optimize the steady state performance of the condenser for maintaining best possible vacuum

c. Generate diagnostic messages on the current state

d Generate qualitative/quantitative queries to study the influences of various parameters on condenser vacuum.

CONCOMADS essentially has the following components

1. Condenser Performance Monitor (ConMon) is a real time performance monitoring tool.

2. Condenser Diagnostic System (ConDig) is real time quantitative diagnostic System.

3. Condenser Query Module (ConQM) is tool to simulate various ‘what-if’ scenarios on the operation and performance of the system.

4. Condenser Signal validation (ConVali) to validate signal inputs to above modules.

Operating Managers can greatly benefit from CONCOMADS by knowing the cost involved in operating the condenser away from the standard operating conditions. The accumulated loss due to various operating parameters is also generated. The real time diagnostics is not only qualitative but is based on quantitative measures; thus bringing in more direct understanding of costs. CONCOMADS greatly helps in planned and cost based maintenance activity based on operational effects. A typical snapshot showing the parameters and performance indices is shown here.
